You cannot fix the AIO zero-click crisis overnight. But you can stop the bleeding in 48 hours.

Monday. Open Google Search Console. Filter for your top 20 "how to" style articles/pages. Check which ones show AI Overviews above them. Those are your intercepted posts.

Tuesday. Pick the one that used to get the most traffic. Rewrite the first 200 words to contradict what Google's AI says. Change the headline from "How to X" to "Why X Fails."

Wednesday. Count how many times you say "learn" or "discover" in your funnel. Replace them with "become" or "transform into." Change your call to action to focus on outcomes, not information.

This is emergency triage. It will not save your business forever. But it buys you time to make the bigger shift.

Why your traffic is steady but your sales are dying!

If you sell digital products, coaching, or high-ticket educational programs, you are likely witnessing a lethal trend. Your top-of-funnel metrics (traffic, impressions, even lead magnet downloads) appear stable, yet your core offer conversions have begun to fall off a cliff.

The data confirms it: Google has moved from being an "answer broker" that directs users to your expertise, to an "answer provider" that intercepts your customers before they ever meet you.

Research from Seer Interactive (September 2025), which tracked 25.1 million impressions, reveals the sheer scale of this interception. When an AI Overview is present, the traditional "click-to-site" behavior evaporates.

NerdWallet, a giant in financial education, reported a 20% year-over-year drop in unique users and a 26% decline in loan revenue, explicitly citing "traffic headwinds in non-monetizing 'learn' topics" as Google’s AI provides financial answers directly on the search results page.

The expansion is accelerating. AI Overviews grew from appearing in 3.93% of queries in January 2025 to over 27% by November 2025. Projections suggest they will cover 70% of all queries by late 2026.

If AI now owns the "what is" and "how to," what is left to sell? The answer lies in shifting your business model...

I made this 8 minute whiteboard video that explains exactly how to solve the problem and become a winner in this new reality. Enjoy!

NerdWallet is a public company. They do financial education. They just reported their worst traffic numbers since going public in 2021.

Monthly users down 20% year over year. Credit card revenue down 19%. Loan revenue down 26%.

Their management did not blame the economy. They specifically said "traffic headwinds in non-monetizing learn topics." That is their educational content. The stuff that builds trust. The stuff Google now answers directly.

If a billion-dollar company with a full SEO team is bleeding out, what chance does a solo creator have?

I pulled the industry numbers for online course creators. Customer acquisition costs went from $20 to $300. Facebook organic reach is down to 1.2%. Google traffic for creators relying on SEO got cut in half.

But there is a flip side. Some creators are winning bigger than ever. I mapped both paths.

The "I Already Knew That" Problem

I want to tell you about a study from Aalto University. It came out in October 2025.

Researchers found that when people read AI summaries, their brains confuse recognition with understanding.

Here is what happens. Someone reads a 30-second AI summary about your topic. Their brain says, "Oh yeah, I knew that." Even though they just learned it 30 seconds ago. They create a false memory of prior knowledge.

Now they genuinely believe they are an expert. They have confidence without competence.

This is why your webinar attendees nod along but never buy. They think they already know your material. They don't feel a knowledge gap. They don't feel the need to learn more.

I broke down the 4-step psychological cascade and included the exact language patterns you can use to snap people out of this false confidence.

McKinsey did a massive study. They talked to 20,000 businesses in the US, Germany, and Japan.
They found something scary.

70% of brand choices get made at the very beginning of the buyer journey. The first brand that educates the customer usually wins. Not the best product. Not the cheapest. The first one to answer the question.

For 20 years, that first answer was your blog post. Your YouTube video. Your free guide.
Now it is Google's AI Overview.

By the time someone reaches your website, they already have a relationship with Google. They already feel educated. They already trust the answer they got.

Rather than other course creators, you are now competing with a search box that answered their question in 30 seconds.

I pulled together the research from McKinsey, Google's old ZMOT study, and a 2025 BCG report into one framework. It shows exactly why losing the first touchpoint means losing the sale.

In 1898, a guy named Elias St. Elmo Lewis invented AIDA. Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.

For 127 years, this was the playbook.

You wrote a blog post. Someone searched Google. They found you. They read your stuff. They trusted you. They bought your course.

Simple.

That playbook is broken now.

Here is what happens today. Someone searches for something you teach. Google's AI Overview pops up at the very top. It gives them a decent answer in 30 seconds. They feel satisfied. They close the tab.

If they do scroll down and click your link, they are already comparing you to Google's summary. The trust that used to build with your brand? It now builds with Google first.

I mapped the old funnel next to the new broken one. The difference is shocking.

Something weird is happening in online business right now.
Your traffic looks fine. People still download your free stuff. Your email open rates haven't crashed.
But your sales? They're falling off a cliff.

I spent the last few weeks digging into research from Seer Interactive. They tracked 25 million impressions across 3,000 queries. Pew Research followed 68,000 real searches. McKinsey interviewed 20,000 businesses.
Let me tell you the answer can't blame the economy or TikTok stealing attention.
It's Google's AI Overviews.

Those little summary boxes at the top of search results? They now answer over 60% of searches without a single click. Your prospect asks Google how to do something. Google tells them. They never visit your site. They never see your lead magnet. They just... leave.

And because the AI sounds confident, they think they already know your material.

I've realized that every helpful article I write is basically a free gift to Google. They take my best ideas and put them in a little box at the top of the search page. Then they often don't even link back to the source. They just give the answer away for free.
I am essentially paying to train the machine that is replacing me.

The latest research shows that 61 percent of people do not click on any links anymore.

They read the summary and move on. This is a massive problem because of how our brains work. A study from Aalto University found that when people read those quick AI summaries, they think they understand the topic.

They feel smart for a minute. They confuse recognizing words with actually knowing a skill.

This feeling kills the desire to buy a course or info product. If you already feel like an expert, you are not going to pay someone to teach you. You feel satisfied. You feel finished.
The reality is that these people are just renting an answer for a few seconds. They have zero depth. They have no actual skill.
We have to stop selling facts. Google and AI own the facts now. If you want to stay in business, you have to sell the things a machine cannot do.

- You can provide a real network of people who are doing the same work.
- You can give specific advice on a messy situation that doesn't fit a template.
- You can provide the push someone needs to actually finish a project when they want to quit.
- You can tell a student exactly why their specific plan is going to fail.

I am changing how I talk about my work. I do not want to be a teacher. I want to be the partner who makes sure the transformation actually happens. Information is a commodity now. Results are the only thing left that is worth a premium price.

Lately, I've looked at how Google’s AI Overviews are disrupting the traditional info product business model by intercepting potential customers during the initial research phase.

Data suggests that zero-click searches and reduced click-through rates create a false sense of expertise in prospects, causing them to believe they no longer need to purchase educational courses.

Because consumers now receive instant answers directly on search pages, the critical brand bond typically formed with content creators is shifting toward AI platforms. I'll argue that marketing strategies now must pivot from selling basic information to offering high-value transformation, accountability, and community.

Ultimately, creators need to redefine their value by focusing on human-centric outcomes that automated systems cannot replicate.
